Summer Movie Night '18-image

Throw your own movie marathon this month complete with decorations, popcorn, and a classic movie. The Arrive at Buckhead Blog has a few tips and tricks to help you throw your movie marathon. Invite a few friends from Atlanta, GA to enjoy a classic movie musical in your apartment. Decorations Decorate your movie night with a red carpet to welcome your guests, movie posters on the walls, a popcorn station, and bean bags for your guests to lounge around on. Use unique lamps and string lights to illuminate your movie night (but don’t forget to dim the lights once the movie starts!). Provide classic popcorn bags for your guests to put their snacks and candy in, and have everyone dress up like it’s the 1950s. This is an easy and fun way to add a little bit of atmosphere and fun to your movie night. Snacks Once you’ve decorated your apartment, it’s time to make your movie snacks. Provide plenty of buttery popcorn and sweet kettle corn and a few of your favorite movie theater candies. Nachos are a great movie snack, as are these Homemade Soft Pretzel Bites from Two Peas & Their Pod. Mixing Hot Tamales and popcorn is a classic snack, and chocolate covered raisins or pretzels are always a crowd pleaser. Make sure that your supply of candy is well stocked. You don’t want to run out of snacks in the middle of the movie. Movies Top Hat (1935) Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire dance into and out of each other’s arms in this 1930s musical. Classic numbers like “Isn’t it A Lovely Day” and “Cheek to Cheek” will take your breath away as Fred and Ginger mix dance and music with their unbeatable chemistry. Singin’ in the Rain (1952) “What a wonderful feeling! I’m happy again.” Singin’ in the Rain will have you beaming from ear to ear as you watch Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds make magic with their feet. Gene Kelly plays a silent movie star who’s having trouble transitioning into “talkies,” Donald O’Connor is his wisecracking best friend, and Debbie Reynolds is the aspiring actress who captures Kelly’s heart. Jean Hagen takes an iconic turn as Lina Lamont, the talentless actress threatening to undermine Kelly’s plan for silver screen dominance. La La Land (2016) If you’re looking for a modern movie musical, La La Land, Damien Chazelle’s tribute to classic musicals, deserves a look. Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) must find a way to balance love and ambition as they pursue their dreams in L.A. Sebastian is a talented but unknown jazz pianist, and Mia is an aspiring actress struggling to make it through daily auditions. They flutter in and out of success (and love) in this stunning movie musical.   What are your favorite classic movies? Let us know in the comments. Thanks for reading our post!

How to Write a Poem-image

For many of us, spring is the perfect season to stop take a break and harvest inspiration for the rest of the year. One of the tools we like to use to help inspire and excite us is poetry. Whether you’re chilling in your Arrive Buckhead apartment or hard at work in Atlanta, Georgia, take some time to gain inspiration by writing a poem. We found many different websites with instructions on writing different forms of poetry. We love this guide by wikiHow , which shares tips like writing exercises and picking a theme, and offers a variety of poetry examples to read and learn from. After looking online or reading the above guide, you still might feel stumped when it comes to the actual process of writing a poem. We found a clever Poem Generator that we really like. Simply select the form of the poem that you’d like to write, fill in the blanks, and then watch the magic of poem generation come together. Here are a few examples of the poems we’ve created using this tool: The Shiny And Old Watch A Poem by The Blog   Whose watch is that? I think I know. Its owner is quite sad though. It really is a tale of woe, I watch her frown. I cry hello.   She gives her watch a shake, And sobs until the tears make. The only other sound's the break, Of distant waves and birds awake.   The watch is shiny, old and deep, But she has promises to keep, Until then she shall not sleep. She lies in bed with ducts that weep.   She rises from her bitter bed, With thoughts of sadness in her head, She idolizes being dead. Facing the day with never ending dread.   With thanks to the poet, Robert Frost, for the underlying structure.   Frog - A Haiku by The Blog   Sunshiny old A common, tiny frog drives at the perfect dog   Poems don’t always have to make sense in order for you to enjoy writing them. We know these poems definitely don’t make sense and the first one was even quite depressing! Share your favorite generated poems in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Board Game of the Month Camel Up-image

We love game night. Thanks to Eggertspiele , one of the best board game publishers (in our opinion), we received a picture via email of one of their most popular games: Camel Up. Check out the above image and read about how fun this game is in today’s blog post. Thinking about hosting a game night in your Arrive Buckhead apartment in Atlanta, Georgia? Make sure you add this great family-friendly game to the agenda. You won’t regret it! Camel Up is a fun betting game for 2 to 8 players. During the game, players will bet on five racing camels, attempting to figure out which one will come in first, last, and try to push their odds throughout the race. The earlier you bet, the more you’ll be rewarded—but be careful! Betting too early could cost you the game. It’s easy to learn yet challenging. Which camel is going to move and how far? Which one will carry others across the finish line? Which player will risk it all by betting early? With less than 30-minutes of play per game and hilarious mechanics like stacking the camels on top of each other, this is a board game for everyone. The betting mechanics are so simple that even a young child can join in the fun (they’ll love the stacking mechanism probably even more than you!). Okay. Maybe we forgot to mention the cool little pyramid in the picture above. Looks neat, right? Well, it is. It’s really cool actually. This pyramid is filled with dice during the game. Simply flip it over and release a sliding mechanism to roll the dice. This dice-chamber-rolling-mechanism is clever and fits the theme of the game. It can be a little tricky putting together though—we’ve even heard of people actually breaking it while putting it together—but luckily, we didn’t find it too difficult. Thankfully, the game comes with illustrated instructions to help you out. Which board game would you award game of the month? Share in the comments and let us know how your game night went. Which games will you be playing in your Atlanta, GA apartment? Thanks for reading!

Try This Classic Strawberry Shortcake Recipe-image

Welcome back to our Arrive Buckhead Blog! Our last post was about kick-starting your morning. Today, we’re sharing a sweet treat recipe. Baking or cooking in your Atlanta, Georgia apartment is a relaxing way to spend an evening at home. The best part of cooking is sharing it with friends. We’ve got a really easy dish today that we think would be great for a movie night or get together. Invite your friends over for an evening in and they’ll love this dessert. Classic Strawberry Shortcake INGREDIENTS strawberries: 1 pint of strawberries, hulled and sliced 1-2 tablespoons confectioners sugar zest of one lemon shortcake: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 tablespoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup heavy cream whipped cream 1 cup heavy cream 1 tablespoon confectioners sugar   INSTRUCTIONS Combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon zest. Allow them to develop flavors in the refrigerator for at least an hour, and up to overnight. To make shortcake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Add heavy cream and mix until just combined. The mixture will be very thick. Form two large rounds for four small rounds on an ungreased pan (I used a cooking stone) and bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes. For added crunch and sweetness, you can sprinkle large decorator's sugar on top of the biscuits, if you have some available, prior to baking. Allow to cool once removed from oven. To make the whipped cream, combine the heavy cream and sugar and beat with whisk attachment on high speed until soft peaks form, about 4-7 minutes. To assemble shortcake, split biscuit in half. Layer with strawberries in the middle and on top and then top with whipped cream. Enjoy! This dessert is sure to be a favorite among strawberry lovers. Kickstart Your Morning This Month-image

Waking up in the morning isn’t always easy. There’s nothing fun about leaving your warm bed and getting started on all your responsibilities for the day. But adding a few things to your typical morning routine can really help kickstart your day. You might even find yourself excited to get out of bed and get things done! The key to starting your day off right actually kind of begins the night before. Getting a really good night’s sleep is helpful when trying to get your day going. Try going to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual — especially on Sunday nights. Wash your face in the morning! Some people prefer to shower at night instead of in the morning, but a cool splash of water on your face can really wake you up! Try GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser , an energizing face wash by Origins. Wake up your skin and your mind will follow suit! Drink some water. Fill up a water bottle with cold water at night and leave it on your nightstand and it will still be cool in the morning for you to sip from! We love this white marble Elements Bottle . Adding some exercise to your morning can really wake you up as well. Yoga and some deep stretching can help you focus on your breathing and getting your body moving. One bonus to working out first thing in the morning is that you are able to get it done and you won’t have to think about it for the rest of the day. Write down your to-do list! This will give you a clear picture of what you need to accomplish during the day. Tip: Start your list with something you have already accomplished, like brushing your teeth or getting dressed. Cross this item off your list when it is done. Doing so will trick your brain into wanting to cross more items off your list! Instant motivation. Here’s to good mornings every day in your apartment this week here in Atlanta, Georgia! Thanks for reading the Arrive Buckhead Blog!
